MANAGERIAL ECONOMICS & QUANTITATIVE METHODS
The aim of the first half of the module is to equip students with knowledge of fundamental principles of micro and macroeconomics and their relevance to management decision-making. The course covers many theories and approaches to enable students to appreciate the impact of economic forces on functional and strategic managerial decisions in contemporary organisation situations. Second half of the module aims to equip students with a basic understanding of fundamental techniques in quantitative and statistical analysis and their application to practical business situations.
ENTREPRENEURSHIP
This module focuses on the process of writing and presenting business plans for new ventures by student teams. The emphasis of this intensively interactive and uniquely structured course is on applying concepts and techniques studied in various functional areas to the new venture development environment. This course has three sections. The first one consists of an introductory module in which the conceptual framework of Entrepreneurship will be taught. The second section is based on group work. The idea is to develop the Building Blocks (BB) of a business project that allows participants to master all the details and potential benefits and problems of the project. After finishing the BB participant will have to work on the preparation of the Business Plan (BP). The BB and BP will be reviewed based on a strict schedule. The third section will include the challenges of implementing the BP and the strategy developed and groups’ formal final presentations of the BP in front of a committee formed by COTRUGLI.
MARKETING MANAGEMENT
This module aims to develop in students a depth of understanding and application of the principles and practice of marketing, with the ability to analyse, solve problems and undertake effective marketing decision making.
FINANCIAL & MANAGERIAL ACCOUNTING
The module includes an overview of financial accounting, a topic which will be addressed again during the finance course. It focuses above all on cost and management accounting showing how the concepts can be used in order to help the decision-making process.
FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT
The objective of this module is to provide students with a survey of the basic principles of financial management. The course first introduces tools and techniques, including Time Value of Money, Net Present Value Analysis, and Risk and Return, and the effect of leverage. The rest of the course focuses on the applications of these tools and techniques on common, important issues in corporate finance, including capital budgeting, capital structure policy, cost of capital estimation, financial planning, and simple valuation. Underpinning this entire course is the concept of creating value.
DECISION MAKING
One of the crucial elements of successful management in a complex and rapidly changing environment is to be able to recognize a decision situation, understand its essential features, and obtain insight that makes clear what the appropriate action is and why. The aim of this module is to empower students with tools and techniques that will enhance their decision-making abilities under conditions of uncertainty, competing objectives, and complicated constraints. The course will cover behavioral, analytical, quantitative and strategic aspects and techniques of managerial decision-making.
HR MANAGEMENT
This module aims to develop an understanding of the contribution of effective Human Resource Management (HRM) to the achievement of organisational objectives.
BUSINESS COMMUNICATION
This module both builds on the basic oral and written managerial communication skills, and goes well beyond them. The goals of this class are to provide opportunities for you to continue polishing your communication skills in different contexts, and particularly to provide practice in and feedback on the interactive communication skills essential to successful managers.
OPERATIONS MANAGEMENT
The aim of this module is develop an enhanced understanding of the key principles and concepts that underpin the challenges that managers face when designing, managing and improving delivery processes and systems in order to encourage more effective responses to these challenges. Systems and processes are viewed as key enablers of business strategy and students gain an understanding of how systems fit together and of the complexity and tensions within such systems.
STRATEGIC MANAGEMENT
The objective of this module is to develop the conceptual knowledge and analytic skills essential for the formulation and execution of corporate strategy. The course focus is translating entrepreneurial vision and company values into sustainable competitive advantage through strategic thinking and managerial processes. Particular emphasis is placed upon implementing strategic changes, and the course provides models and cases involving change.
ADVANCE FINANCE
The objective of this module is to expand on the concepts developed in the course on Financial Management. The course will introduce will first of all discuss the different aspects of the financial strategy of the firm, stressing the indicators of value creation. The case of a European Company will be used to understand the links between strategy and financial objectives. The course will focus on the major financial decisions which lead to the creation of value.
SELF DEVELOPMENT & MANAGEMENT
The main aim of this module is to encourage the development of the student’s personal qualities and professional (management) competencies, focusing on the achieving of a high degree of interpersonal skills, self-confidence, initiative and enterprise, and an appropriate attitude to work. The level of achievement with respect to the personal aims should satisfy the requirements mentioned in the personal learning plan and personal learner reports (journal).
KNOWLEDGE MANAGEMENT
The main aim of the course is to enable students to acquire a critical understanding of the significance of information and knowledge management for policy development and the generation of appropriate instruments for economic and business development. A second aim is to help students obtain a critical understanding of stakeholder relationships and the importance of the social life of information in the creation of an information society that supports entrepreneurship and innovation.
ADVANCE MANAGEMENT PROGRAM
The objective of this module is to develop the conceptual knowledge and analytic skills essential for solving complex managerial problems and situations. In the first part of the module you are introduced to a 'consultancy tool-kit': a set of tools and skills that will enable you to address complexity and deliver purposeful outcomes. Module ends with a written report on a live/virtual consultancy work. This involves working in groups to analyse a problem situation for a client organisation.
LEADERSHIP
The objective of this module is to provide an understanding of different approaches to leadership; the characteristics of the effective leader, the impact and influence of context and situation on the leader’s style , and the leader’s relationship with those they lead, particularly the role of a leader in a team. Importantly, it will examine how leaders impact on others to enhance performance in organisations and examine how to develop personal leadership skills.
